Graduation day at ETSU is one of the most exciting milestones in a student’s journey. After countless exams and classes, the moment finally arrives when students get to celebrate their hard work throughout the years. Amid all the excitement and chaos, preparation is key to making sure the day runs smoothly.
Commencement will be held Saturday, May 9, in the Ballad Health Athletic Center (Mini Dome). There will be ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Guest tickets are not required for the ceremony, and there is no limit on the number of guests per graduate.
One of the most important things that graduates can do is plan ahead for the day. This should start with making sure all the graduation requirements are completed well ahead of time, including the intent to graduate form. It’s important to keep up to date with emails and pay attention to announcements.
On graduation day, timing will be very important. Arrive on time to allow for parking and check-in. Grad day usually comes with large crowds, so give yourself time to reduce stress and ensure important instructions are not missed.
Seating for guests will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible seating is located on the ground floor. Graduates will be guided by staff during the ceremony. The event will be live-streamed and posted on the ETSU Commencement page for those unable to attend.
Setting a clear meeting spot for family and friends after the ceremony is a good way to avoid unnecessary confusion. Cell service can be unreliable, especially in crowded areas, so planning ahead will simplify coordination.
Another important tip is to remember the essentials. A clear bag policy will be enforced, so it is advisable to avoid carrying excessive items.
The most important tip for graduates is to take time and be present. Live in the moment. This day is a celebration of achievements and everything that has been worked toward. It is easy to get caught up in the activities, but don’t forget to pause and truly take it all in.
