On Oct. 24, the ETSU football team traveled to Lexington, Virginia, to face off against the Virginia Military Institute. Thankfully, their three hours of travel were not for nothing, as the team brought back a 38-0 win. Continuing their three-game win streak against the Keydets. This also means a 6-2 overall record for ETSU and a 4-0 record in the Southern Conference.
Throughout the game, the Buccaneers gained 482 total yards, rushing 272 and passing 210, with an average of 6.2 yards per play. They managed to catch nine passes against VMI, including Tyler Griffin’s seven receptions for 56 yards and two touchdown catches. This is also the first time this season someone on the ETSU team has caught multiple touchdowns in one game. But he was not the only one adding to their score, as Mason Mims completed 25-22 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Looking to the defensive side of things, the 13 passing yards allowed by the Bucs are the third-lowest total by an FCS team in a game this season.
This day’s rushing game leaders included TJ Peyton with an 8.1 average, 121 yards, 121 gain, and 1 touchdown. Following him, Jaiden Daniels received an 8.3 average with 66 yards, 66 gain, and 0 touchdowns. Finishing out the rushing leaders, Jason Albritton had a 5.1 average with 41 yards, 41 gains, and 1 touchdown.
