East Tennessee State is moving rapidly to replace former Buccaneer basketball coach Ed DeChellis, who recently resigned to accept the head coaching position at Penn. State.
A three-member search committee has been formed and will conduct preliminary telephone interviews with prospective candidates before inviting finalists to visit the campus during the week of April 14.
Committee members include Dave Mullins, interim director of intercollegiate athletics, Dr. John Quigley, ETSU faculty and athletics reprsenative and Dr. Wayne Andrews, vice president for Administration.
“This is the time of year when many coaching positions have become vacant across the country,” Mullins said.
“We intend to move on a very fast track to attract the best person possible to guide our program.”
Once the telephone interviews are completed, the committee plans to announce a list of around four to five finalists who will meet on successive days with senior athletics department staff, the university Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and ETSU President Paul Stanton.
“It is our intention to announce the hiring of a new coach within two weeks,” Mullins said.
