Dear Editor,
I am responding to an add that ran in the March 27, 2003 East Tennessean.
It read “call God. Ask for a refund.”
I do not understand how we can ask God for a refund. We have not paid Him for anything. He has paid the ultimate price for us.
God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to this earth to die on the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life. We didn’t deserve this because we all sin, but it’s a gift.
The Bible says in Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
He paid the price for our sins, but it was a gift to each and every one of us. This gift cost Jesus His life.
God wants us to accept this gift, accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior and live for Him.
John 3:16-17 in the Bible states “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”
God loves you. God loves me. He loves us, so He paid the price for our sins Himself.
We cannot ask for a refund on something we didn’t pay for. He paid for it.
Jesus had a crown of thorns crammed on His head, spikes driven through His hands and feet, a spear stuck in His side, died on a cross, and rose from the grave on the third day! All this for you and me!
One of the main reasons we were out of school on Good Friday is because that’s when we remember his death on a cross.
We celebrate Easter because he rose from the grave!
God loves us, we shouldn’t ask him for a refund. We should love him too!
