ETSU women’s softball team had a warm welcoming back to Tennessee, even in 40-degree weather. After playing in Kissimmee, Fla., over spring break the Lady Bucs were back in action on Wednesday in Johnson City against the Monmouth Hawks.
The Lady Bucs shut out the Hawks in the double header 5-0, 3-0 respectively.
Belinda Barrera recorded the first shut out of the day, while Courtney Jenkins took care of the second game. This is Jenkins’ first win of the season.
The first game started out in a fury with the Lady Bucs scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, and they would later double that score in the second inning. The final score came in fifth on a homerun by Lindsay Lane.
The Bucs went 12-for-27 at the plate, while Monmouth only hit one-for-21. Danielle Spetar shined in this game going one-for-two at bat and driving in three hits.
Lane not only hit a homerun to secure the win, but also went three-for-three at bat.
The doubleheader continued with the Lady Bucs winning 3-0, all in the first inning. Stephanie Gaynord and Janine Sprague were brought in by a double from Danielle Spetar.
Spetar would also score on a Lane single. The Bucs were on fire again keeping the Hawks scoreless in game two.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Hawks had bases loaded with two out when Monmouth’s Dusty Archer was struck out by Jenkins.
The ETSU Bucs improved to 10-11, while the Hawks fell to 1-4.
The next home game is on March 31 against Radford starting at 1 p.m.
