Invading Iraq is one of the best ideas I’ve seen from an American president in years. Further, I get more than just a little giddy when I hear that there is a good chance that we will be knocking on the door of Iraq’s neighbor, Iran.
“Hi, we’re the United States, and you are going to have a little adjustment in your attitude and way of doing business!”
I’m not hot on the idea because of Iraq’s newfound democracy. In fact, I would jump up and down for joy about invading them even if we were keeping them in a state of martial law. Let me explain.
When we went in to Iraq it was originally for the purpose of finding and somehow controlling – most likely destroying because seizing inferior weaponry would not benefit us – Iraq’s WMD capability.
Obviously, the intelligence community that Bush inherited from Slick Willy left a lot to be desired.
Next came the thought of trying to do some good as long as we were there. Bush decided to act on the political science theory of the so-called “democratic zone of peace.”
The theory states that peace is easiest to achieve when states in the international political scene are democratic in nature because the ideals of these countries do not conflict to a severe enough degree to merit hostilities. That is why there was an election on the last Sunday in January.
Will it work? Look, I’m no psychic, but when I hear all the arguments about why it won’t, I don’t hear any that hold water.
If you want to talk about the issue of minority rights in that country then I would remind you that we have been around since 1776 and started our quest with the erroneous belief that people with dark skin were not people but property.
On day one, there is concern about the rights of the minority Sunni populace. African-Americans in this country had to wait 100 years to be freed from slavery and another 100 still to obtain civil rights.
If you want, we could discuss women, but let’s just end this by saying that I don’t recall hearing about Betsy Ross or Martha Washington voting.
The biggest nay-saying that I hear about Iraq is that soldiers are dying – and sometimes the issue of “ill-equipped” joins that complaint – and won’t be coming home soon.
Yes, soldiers are dying. Soldiers die when they go to war or occupy hostile lands. My heart goes out to the families who have lost someone to this effort, and I weep collectively with the nation over their loss.
For as much as this is true; I hope that it will be some time before these valiant people return, and no, not because I am sadistic.
The armor and troop strength issues are thanks to Bill Clinton and his liberal cronies. Collectively, the administration and liberals in Congress from 1993-2001 did more to dismantle and demoralize the military than any enemy of our country could have ever done. I don’t want to waste a lot of time on this so I’ll move on.
After the president’s State of the Union address, I heard the liberal Democrats crying about the fact that Iraq is now a terrorist mecca.
Good! So be it.
I can’t believe that people aren’t understanding how terror activities in Iraq mean none in the United States. Web sites are constantly advertising for people interested in killing Americans to come to Iraq.
It really is a very, very simple formula. If the extremists who hate the “Great Satan” are so busy dealing with us parking a lawn chair and sitting in their yard, then they don’t have the time, money and resources to try to lob something destructive into our yard! As long as we are in their little patch of real estate they will have to choose between hitting us here or driving us out of their territory.
Which one do you think will take priority?
Every soldier killed by a bomb in Iraq kept how many Americans from having been killed if that bomb went off in the subway? The terrorists who would be willing and have the resources to pull off a 9/11 are choosing to “vacation” closer to home instead of traveling abroad.
Look, if you don’t get the concept or are so brainwashed by Michael Moore that you won’t see what the true facts are, then I can’t help you.
But, whether you like it or not, invading Iraq has kept America safe from the terrorist threat, and our troops are needed there for some time to come.
God bless them all, and if you value your freedom then take the time to somehow say thank you to a military veteran for the freedom and safety you enjoy as an American.
