And down the stretch they come. After struggling for most of the season, the Bucs followed up their offensive explosion on Saturday against Greensboro with another one on Monday against Western Carolina.
ETSU again used scrambling defense and sharp shooting to race out to a big lead in the first half.
The Bucs held a 12-7 lead at the 16:08 mark when they turned up the defensive pressure, holding the Catamounts scoreless for five minutes and putting a 15-0 run.
“It was great for us to get off to a good start,” said ETSU head coach Murry Bartow. Western Carolina managed to recover and make a run of its own, cutting the lead to eight points at half time.
The Bucs regrouped at the half and held off the Catamounts the rest of the way to claim a 92-83 victory.
“The big key for us in the second half was that Western could never get over that hump,” Bartow said.
“They got to within five or six, but they could never get any closer. It’s another win, and now we’ve got a little momentum again.”
Momentum has been a rare thing for the Bucs this year. This is only the second time this season that the ETSU has been able to put together back-to-back victories.
