Campus Recreation will be holding its first ever “Gymboree” this weekend, Feb. 3-5. “This is an opportunity for people to come into the CPA and just play around,” said Adam Knobloch, intramural graduate assistant for Campus Recreation.
“It is going to be very informal,” Knobloch said. “Participants do not have to be pre-registered. Anyone in the CPA this weekend is welcome to participate. That was our goal.”
The Gymboree event will consist of several different events throughout the weekend. Crab soccer will be “kicking” off the event on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by wallyball at 5:30 p.m.
“Wallyball is a version of volleyball that is played in a racquetball court,” said Jessica Ruble, one of the weekend’s co-planners. “It is pretty popular at other schools.”
Saturday’s events will begin at 11 a.m. with floor hockey followed by pool games at 2 p.m. and then recess activities at 4 p.m.
“I am excited about the pool games,” said Chelsie Gregory, aquatics/marketing GA with Campus Recreation.
“Hopefully we can get students in the pool that would not normally come out during normal pool hours.”
The recess activities will take students back to their days in grade school with a variety of games.
“We thought it would be fun to include these types of games in our event,” said Torey Burton, co-planner of recess games.
“They are great mixers and allow students to interact in a way they haven’t in many years. These games are still a lot of fun too.”
Sunday will conclude with possibly the event’s most popular activity – dodgeball.
Campus Recreation held a dodgeball tournament last semester with great success. Therefore, it seemed to be a natural fit in this weekend’s event.
