The Lady Buccaneers women’s tennis team brings their winning streak to two as ETSU defeated Middle Tennessee State Saturday at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro. The Buccaneers now improve to 2-1 on the season while MTSU falls to 2-1.
In No. 2 doubles action, Masha Ilina and Sandie Knight defeated Elvira Yusupova and Claudia Szabo, 8-3.
Olya Batsula and Tara Byrne defeated Pooja Kommireddi and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom, 8-6, in the No. 3 slot to take the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles, Marlene Chemin and Kelly Adams defeated Sylwia Ziolkowska and Elena Volobueva, 8-5.
The Lady Bucs again dominated in singles action, winning four of the six sets. In No. 1 singles Masha Ilina defeated Marlene Chemin, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomores Elena Volobueva and Olya Batsula both had victories in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
Volobueva defeated Elvira Yusupova, 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 3 position while Batsula defeated Ann-Kristin Siljestrom, 6-2, 7-6 (4). In No. 6 singles, senior Sandie Knight defeated Pooja Kommireddi, 8-5.
“I’m very happy for the win, I believe it’s the first time ETSU has ever defeated Middle Tennessee. The girls all played well from top to bottom, we played well as a team and we are looking forward to getting back on the courts tomorrow,” said head coach Steve Brooks, on Saturday.
