Fans waited in a line that stretched from the front entrance of the Mini-Dome, curving all the way past Burleson Hall to see the SGA sponsored concert that included Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, and The Randy Rogers Band.
“I’m really excited,” said junior Elizabeth Trexler, , “I’ve seen him [Dierks] in concert before. He was really good. How could he not be? He’s really hot!”
Many students came with guests. There was an array of devoted fans dressed in cowboy hats and boots.
Although, fans Matt Kotsianas and J.W. Deaver came dressed a little out of the ordinary, wearing short remnants of Halloween costumes. When asked about their outfits, Matt said, “It’s a tribute to Dierks.”
The show opened with the Randy Rogers Band followed by Miranda Lambert who introduced a song from her latest album; “Crazy Ex-girlfriend” in which she asked, “Any crazy ex-girlfriends in the building tonight?” She kept the audience on their toes with her energy and peppiness on stage. Lambert had this ‘revenge is sweet’ attitude that was directed towards the girls and got them fired up.
The crowd erupted into cheers as Bentley finally took the stage. He opened with one of his No. 1 hits, “Every Mile a Memory.”
He drew fans in with his performance and encouraged them to sing along with him. He even took a fan’s cell phone and sang to whomever was on the receiving end. At one point, Bentley disappeared from stage and ended up in the middle of surprised fans.
As the concert came to a close, the performers and thanked all their fans for attending.
At the end, the audience seemed pleased with what they saw.
April Young, an ETSU junior said, “I really liked when Dierks did bluegrass and the Johnny Cash cover.”
However, some fans were not as ecstatic.
“It was alright,” said Matt Smith, who came with his girlfriend. “I could have lived without it though.”
When asked what it was like to meet Bentley, Jessyca Newman, SGA attorney general replied “He’s really nice. He personally thanked all the students he met.” She also served on the concert staff.
