What is the heart of a university or campus? It’s different things to different people, but for myself it’s the athletic programs.
It’s far and away the most visible part of any university. Think of a university as a house and the athletic programs as the front porch, it’s the first thing you see.
Why the poorly constructed analogy, you ask? I’m preparing to draw the proverbial line in the sand about football on this campus. I don’t think football would be a cancer eating at the core of this university.
People are acting like the return of football is the 11th biblical plague right after the locusts and the hell fire and brimstone.
The positive benefits football could provide for this institution have been widely publicized, but hey if you wanna fight the man and stick it to the establishment go ahead and vote “no.” But realize your vote is going to affect more than the university.
The old saying “Money is the root of all evil” could not be truer in the case of football here at ETSU.
I understand that the collegiate budget is tighter than a Paris Hilton halter-top. I realize that the $50 fee increase could go to such fruitful endeavors like $5 pitchers at PR’s, $2 dollar pints at Buck’s or paying your parking fees. (These are a few of my favorite things.)
Have you ever thought that money could change the life of someone in the form of an athletic scholarship?
Unfortunately, we’re not all road scholars and football could be the outlet for someone to better their life through a college education provided through a scholarship.
I can’t wait for the Hatfields and the McCoys to bury the hatchet. What the @$#!.
