Raise ticket pricesDear Editor,
While I understand the desire to bring football back to ETSU, I cannot for the life of me comprehend the justification of the use of student fees to pay for it.
Many ETSU students simply aren’t interested. Why should they be forced to pay for a program in which they have no interest?
The practice of financing football with student fees – regardless of how common it may be – unnecessary and unjustly foists the burden onto every ETSU student, including those who don’t have any desire to see a football program at their school.
Instead of forcing all of us to pay for the new program, why not shift the cost to ticket prices? This would place the financial burden where it belongs: on the shoulders of those who are interested in football.
Yes, it may be the case that doing so would result in ticket prices beyond that which the market will bear, but if a new football program cannot at least sustain itself, it ought not exist in the first place.
