For many, choosing a candidate is difficult. For others, it’s as easy as walking into a Nine West store and buying the first pair of shoes they try on. The question is what candidate fits you? Leading in the Fox News Republican polls is Sen. John McCain.
In the Issues sections on McCain’s Web site is a broad list of the solutions he supports. McCain does not stand for same-sex marriages, and is a prime backer of the military’s policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” a rule which states that lesbians and gays may serve in the military as long as they keep their sexual orientation a secret.
Next in the polls is the evangelical politico Mike Huckabee. With beliefs akin to that of McCains’ he also stands a strong position in the tight conservative race. In his Web site is a list of proposed answers to America’s questions. He is strongly against a federally mandated universal health care and abortion rights. He does not support hate crime legislation.
The next candidate, Mitt Romney, is third in the polls. In his blog he has written about his strong opposition to the tide of illegal immigrants entering the country, and the solutions he plans to put into action if he is made president. He also has strongly supported solutions to trouble overseas.
The last in the polls is Ron Paul. Although he made quite a popular splash on the Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report,” he remained at 4 percent in Fox News’ polls this past week. It seems that a bigger Colbert bump may be in order. Unlike the other Republican candidates, Paul voted against a constitutional ban on gay marriage, and has not made it a stand to oppose civil unions.

In the Democratic race Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the famed wife of former President Bill Clinton, has a hairline lead in the polls.
As stated in her Web site, as president, Clinton will work towards repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and supporting abortion rights for women.
Sen. Barack Obama stands second among Democrats. Although Clinton and Obama disagree with each other regularly, their views are nevertheless alike. According to his blog, he stands strong for civil rights for all Americans and has a detailed plan sketched to repair damages to the environment.
Last and not very publicized is Mike Gravel. Gravel is almost nonexistent in most polls. He is a liberal Democrat, with views aimed at pulling soldiers out of Iraq immediately and supporting women’s right to choose. For more information visit www.gravel2008.us.
Hopefully the information provided here has helped identify what candidate you will be trying on for size in this year’s upcoming election.
