Rob Stapleton and Benji Brown from BET’s Def Jam and Comedy Central are bringing special kinds of humor to ETSU for the 2011 Homecoming Comedy Show Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Brooks Gym. “Be prepared to laugh until your sides hurt,” says ETSU Black Affairs Association public relations representative Donte Brabson.

Brown will emcee the event with Stapleton as the headliner. “Born and raised in the Bronx, Rob has a versatile style that has made him a favorite on BET’s ComicView and Comedy Central’s Comic Groove,” says the Comedy Central website.

ETSU hosted Kevin Hart in the spring whose comedic style is similar to that of Brown and Stapleton, according to many of their fans.

The 2011 Homecoming Committee wanted all of the week’s activities to display the theme “Window to the World” expressing the university’s growing diversity as they ended their yearlong centennial celebration.

“The Black Affairs Association of ETSU decided on these two comedians, not only because they are very humorous, but also to bring more diversity to the campus,” says Najima Adam, Vice President of Black Affairs.

Like Stapleton, Brown has been a part of BET’s ComicView. “Benji delivers diversity in his stand up that allows you to feel as if you are on an adventure,” says LookLaugh.com.

“The goal is for students to enjoy themselves and have a bit of comedic relief during the stress of the semester,” says Brabson. “Laughing always takes my mind off of everything and helps me relax.”

All ticket sales are at the door. General admission is $5 and student tickets are free with student ID. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
