It’s that time of year ago. The smell of pumpkin spice fills the air and ETSU beware, ghosts are on the prowl.Halloween is just around the corner and there’s plenty to do if you know where to look.

For the first time, the Sherrod Library is holding a trick or treat on the 31st, followed by Ghost stories in the plaza. The Library is celebrating it’s 24th anniversary and the stories have been a part of it for at least three years. And the best part is that it’s free!

For those who want something a little more off-campus, there is also the Appalachain Ghostwalks, which is a year round service and features explorations of not only ghosts, but Bigfoot and UFOs. While there is a Johnson City location, there is one in Gatlinburg as well. These tend to be on the pricier side starting at $48 per person and decreasing the more members of a group there are.

The interesting thing is that while some of these tours and story-telling are seasonal, most of them are regulars.

Such as the Bell Witch Cave tours, in which tour guides take travellers are taken through the infamous caves and the John Bell Cabin, who the Bell Witch was said to haunt. While the tour takes place in Adams, Tennesse, which is about a four-hour drive, all of the ticket types from children to senior are under $25.

For something a little bit closer, there’s the Haunted Forest in Elizabethton. They have attraction for everyone from escape rooms to hayrides to zombies. And better yet, nothing costs more than $15 and you can get combo packages.

And who could forget Fender’s Farm in Jonesborough. For anyone not local to the area both Fender’s Farm and the city it’s in are decently famous. Fender’s farm includes a corn maze, haunted trails, and a pumpkin patch among other things. The pricings are all decent and varied for those not necessarily looking to be scared.
