East Tennessee State women’s tennis showcased their depth and top-to-bottom strength at home on Friday, claiming victories at singles positions No.1 through No.5 in a divisive 6-0 win over Tusculum University.
The Buccaneers set the tone early by taking the doubles point, winning two of three matches to grab a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. The pairings of Alessandra Caceres and Mariangel Estrella, along with Julia Millan and Ksenija Rage, each earned convincing 6-2 victories. The early success in doubles allowed ETSU to carry confidence into singles play and apply pressure across the lineup.
At No.1 singles, Ksenija Rage set the tone with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory, establishing early control and giving ETSU a strong presence at the top of the lineup. Alessandra Caceres followed at No.2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win, keeping the Buccaneers firmly in charge in the upper courts and applying continued pressure to the Pioneers. Mariangel Estrella also posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No.5 singles. ETSU won every completed match in straight sets in singles, limiting Tusculum’s opportunities to gain any traction.
The combination of efficient doubles play and a clean sweep of singles positions No.1 through No.5 underscored ETSU’s ability to control matches from start to finish. The Buccaneers not only set the tone early but also showed that they have depth needed to sustain pressure across multiple courts.
With the win, ETSU continued to build momentum early in the spring season and demonstrated the balance of its lineup as it prepares for upcoming non-conference and conference matchups. They improved to 2-2 on the young season, and will return to action on Feb. 5 against Appalachian State at home in the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
