Dear Editor,
As much as I find the Star Report interesting, I nevertheless agree with much of what was said in Averil Chaney’s letter (East Tennessean April 14).
It is not only girls, but also men who have little respect for “slappers” like Star.
Back home in England, women like Star are referred to by men as slappers because they are attracted to the type of low-life men or assholes who have a tendency to beat or “slap” women.
Women like Star tend to hang out in night clubs and are readily available for men who have had a skinful of ale.
As a challenge, they are not exactly of the Mount Everest standard, but then, even climbing the stairs is tough when you’re drunk!
The problem I have with girls like Star is that they always refer to men who happen not to be alcoholics or wife-beaters as “nice,” and therefore by implication, boring.
A vase of flowers is “nice,” or an ice cream on a hot day is “nice.”
The opposite of bad is not “nice” but “good.”
I consider myself a good man but I still drink, smoke cigars occassionally, gamble and datewomen. However, I never hit women or cheat on them.
Above all I respect them.
Truth, honesty, courage and most of all love are among the considerations and values women should look for in a man.
If this makes a man “nice” then so be it.
However, do not despair good guys and good girls. I have a theory.
Fortunately, girls such as Star are attracted to the low-life assholes and the low-life assholes equally head straight for the girls like Star.
Therefore both of these wastes of space are taken from the equation leaving the good girls for the good guys!
