Dr. David Champouillon — the director of the jazz program at ETSU – along with his band, The Jazz Doctors, will be providing the entertainment for the American Cancer Society’s annual Spirits of the Season event set to kick off the holiday season this month.Spirits of the Season, a true wine- and food-tasting event, will offer a wide variety of fine wines, champagnes, liqueurs, cognacs, bourbons and scotches, as well as award-winning cuisine prepared by Chef Jean Claude at the Millennium Centre.
Spirits of the Season, an event to benefit the American Cancer Society, is set to take place from 3-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Millennium Centre in Johnson City.
The event is being sponsored by One Stop Wines and Liquors and the Millennium Centre. These businesses are underwriting all of the cost associated with the event; so all money raised goes directly to the American Cancer Society.
Ben Scharfstein created this event in 2005.
Scharfstein’s cancer returned in 2006 after an absence of nine years and he lost his battle with this horrible disease in 2010.
His son, Phil, and One Stop Manager Mel Bowman are now operating the business and putting on this event in his honor.
“One Stop Wines is thrilled to host Spirits of the Season again, along with the Millennium Centre,” Phil Scharfstein, owner said. “It gives us the opportunity to invite the community to kickoff the holiday season, present some of our finest selections and most importantly help raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s mission. This will be the event of the season.”
As many as 100 different beverages will be available for tasting during the event. This is a great
time to pick out gifts for friends, that special bottle of wine for your holiday meal or just find a new wine or two that you really enjoy.
Tickets for Spirits of the Season are $60 each or two for $100, and can be purchased at One Stop, 1912 S. Roan St., Johnson City; Millennium Centre, 2001 Millennium Place, Johnson City; or your American Cancer Society office, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City.
