ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Carter resigned Monday, according to a letter from university President Brian Noland released to the campus community.

“Mr. Carter and I have discussed the future of collegiate athletics at length and agreed it is best for him to take a step back from this environment and spend more time with his wife and two children, who are in high school,” Noland said in the letter.

Carter, who had been athletics director since September 2017, “helped our student-athletes win championships, bring home three Southern Conference Commissioner’s Cups and achieve academic excellence,” the letter stated. “His commitment to ETSU Athletics, his decency, and his love of sport are unquestionable.”

Dr. Richard “Doc” Sander, who previously served as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, will serve as interim AD until a permanent replacement is hired.
