The ETSU men’s tennis team defeated Appalachian State with a 7-0 victory, taking all of its singles matches and all of its doubles matches, as well.
In the singles match, junior Marcos Pavlovich beat out his Appalachian State rival Erez Cohen with a score of 6-1 and 1-0. ETSU’s Roberto Fernandez, a senior, defeated his opponent Doug Ormsby in a close match of 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2. Sophomore Diego Iglesias won the victory over Ben Shuster, 7-6 and 6-2.
In the fourth singles match, Pablo Shahagun took his game with 6-3 and 6-4 over opponent Robbie Ormsby. In No. 5 singles, it was Alejandro Salazar who won the point for ETSU against Alon Cohen, 6-0 and 6-3. In the No. 6 singles, freshman Frederico Ochoa of Colombia won with 7-6 and 6-2 against Jacob Stapleton, winning the point for ETSU. Finally, in the No. 7 singles match, junior Francisco Diaz defeated Derrick Boone with a score of 6-2 and 6-1. In the doubles game, Pavlovich and Fernandez won over Cohen and Ormsby, 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles Sahagun and Salazar beat out Shuster and Cohen with a score of 8-3. Iglesias and sophomore Moises Serrano took the victory over Mountaineers, Jason Nius and Ormsby, 8-5.
This is the third straight win for the men’s team, putting them at 10-6 and 5-0 in the Southern Conference.
“We had great play today,” said coach Dave Mullins. “It was a great team effort and it’s good to have momentum going against Wofford.
