Dear Editor,
Obviously there is something going on here which every freedom-loving human being should be paying very close attention to.
Freedom imposed is not freedom but subversive domination. The world is watching in horror as the United States of America surrenders its moral leadership under the rule of a self-serving, morally bankrupt Bush administration. Democracy has failed when a small group of radicals like Bush/Cheney and their henchmen can override the electoral process, defy world opinion, defy the United Nations and impose a horror on the scale of the impending invasion of Iraq.
How can we rationally go to war on the grounds that Iraq is in defiance of the United Nations when to do so puts us in defiance of the United Nations and world opinion?
Democracy has failed when there is no judicial or legislative check or balance against a moronic madman whose claim to the presidency has questions of legitimacy.
My unspoken fear is that Homeland Security is a covert organization built around the suspicious vote-counting process of the last election. If we now live in a country where elections can be stolen by a leader who defies the world to commit atrocities against humanity for underlying motives of imperialism and greed, we can only be compared to Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler.
I do not blame George Bush for this tragedy. He is obviously not intelligent enough to be held accountable. I blame democracy which has allowed a radical element of our society to assume power and lead the world into madness. May God forgive those of us who have seen the truth and done too little to intervene.
David Smith
