Dear Editor,
First, it is only a possible increase in fees for the sports programs not a definite. Secondly, It’s $105 for all sports not just football and basketball.
The money is not for a “free ride” and many athletes have a GPA well over 3.0 and can get academic scholarships.
Third, only maybe 40 schools across the country make money off of sports programs, and many of them already have an athletic fee for students.
Another thing that should be known is that if we cut our football program many sports that are successful ( basketball, golf, etc) will not be able to participate in the conference they are already in. It may be unimportant to you but it is important to the players.
Plus, have you not noticed we have already begun to make cuts (i.e. cutting majors and minors, restricted lighting in buildings)? Why not get outraged by that?
I am not looking forward to paying an extra fee, but this is my school of choice.
I will pay whatever I must to continue to attend ETSU.
