“The one thing about life is that none of us are going to get out of it alive, so we might as well go for the things we want while we’re here!” says Gary Tuerack, internationally known author, speaker and founder of Tuerack Training International.
This is the motto he has lived by, traveling around the world to speak to hundreds of thousands of college students about improving their grades and reading skills. Soon, students at ETSU will get the chance to hear Tuerack’s story firsthand.
At 7 p.m., Sept. 17 in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium, Tuerack will bring his message to Buccaneer ears.
The event is sponsored by the Inter-Fraternity Council and is free to all ETSU students interested in improving their academic skills.
IFC President Kobelah Bennah had a chance to meet Tuerack at an IFC conference and was very impressed. Bennah said he was extremely motivated by Tuerack and wanted students at ETSU to have the opportunity to experience one of his seminars.
One of Tuerack’s most effective motivational tools is his personal testimony. As a child, Tuerack was a poor reader and struggled in school. Amazingly, he developed a method to triple his reading speed and improve his grades, which propelled him to graduate high in his class.
Now he is an award-winning speaker, with honors such as the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities’ 2001 Best Lecturer of the Year award and Cambridge, England’s International Biographical Center Outstanding Speaker of the 20th century award.
He is sought after by many respectable institutions such as Harvard, Cornell, Boston University, MIT and Tufts.
Bennah said any interested Buc should attend the seminar and judge for him or herself what Tuerack has to say.
Tuerack’s presentation will be aimed at teaching students how to get better grades and develop better reading skills.
At the very least, Bennah believes students will walk away from the speech a bit more motivated than they were when they came.
Bennah defines the event simply as, “It’s motivational, educational, and free.”
