The ETSU Lady Bucs tennis team is about to complete Southern Conference action with their last match coming up this weekend.
The Bucs will host Wofford for their final match of the season at the outdoor tennis courts. The team hopes to produce another strong win to cement a solid seeding at the conference tournament.
Furman and Davidson will provide the most competition at the upcoming tournament taking place at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
Under the guidance of coach Steve Brooks, the team participated in a valuable practice session at the venue during their time in Charleston for spring break.
Last Saturday the Bucs carried out another victory at home against Appalachian State.
An important conference win for the team saw the Bucs win all three doubles matches before heading out for singles.
A number of the Bucs had played singles matches against Appalachian State team members in singles during fall tournament play and knew the singles matches were going to be tough.
The Bucs rose to the challenge and won five out of the six matches in straight sets.
The tightest match took place between the Bucs’ Sylwia Ziolkowska and Appy’s Victoria Moody at the No. 3 position.
With the score tied at one set all, the match came down to a 10 point super-tiebreaker for the third set.
Ziolkowska then pushed past her opponent in a tiebreaker score of 11-9 helping her team to its eighth 7-0 victory.
Alexandra Knight won her singles match in straight sets along with a powerful 8-3 victory in doubles play.
Knight was honored as the April 5 SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. It was the second time she received it.
The Bucs record stands at 17-6 overall and 7-2 in the SoCon.
