Dear Editor,
I am a member of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA) here on campus. Today I was dismayed to find that, once again, our flyers have been vandalized.
This time it was in Brown Hall but it has happened in almost every building on campus over the years.
I know many people don’t agree with our point of view but that is no reason to deny others the opportunity.
We are not in the fourth grade; let’s show a little respect for others shall we? I would also like to take this opportunity to make a few points about modern feminism.
First, we do not burn our bras, hate men, think women are better than men, and we certainly are NOT “pro-abortion”.
We are pro-choice, we believe in reproductive freedom (i.e., access to birth control and emergency contraception), equality between the sexes, promoting women’s health, fighting aids and other communicable diseases, working for global women’s rights, and a number of other positive things.
We would love to have anyone interested in becoming a member. We meet every Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the Cave.
If anyone has questions they can contact me at bananappeal314@yahoo.com.
And to those of you who don’t agree, please at least leave our flyers alone! It takes time, money and energy to put those up.
We don’t rip down or defile your posters, please show us (and everyone) the same respect.
Kate McKinnon
