Dear Editor,
As a student in support of the return of football, it makes me sick to see all this indifference. Even if your polls are correct in that only 30 percent of the student population took the poll to begin with, that still doesn’t take into account the people that just didn’t care to look or didn’t see the front-page link to the voting page. How many of us really care to go to ETSU home page?
Most students only see that page if they log on to the library or somewhere on campus such as a lab, in which case I believe the last thing they have on their minds is campus events. Most of those students would be looking to the address bar before the page even fully loaded.
We must look at the campus popular voice as well as the local voice. Even the task force is made up of a majority of people who work for organizations that are made up of alumni, staff, etc. What needs to happen is an overall, ‘loudly voiced’ campaign to see what the overall vote is.
Don’t make it as complicated as the East Tennessean.com poll that breaks it up so much. It needs to be a clear Yes/No vote.
If you don’t want to pay for a student fee, then its a no vote, because the hard truth is that the football program isn’t going to come back if people aren’t willing to truly and fully support the return.
