Dear Editor
Cheers to Buctainment for providing ETSU with a great event in last Thursday night’s Henry Rollins Spoken Word.
Many of those in attendance already held esteem for Rollins because of his extensive discography.
However, not only did he connect to the audience musically, but his discussion of current events and his obvious social activism was refreshing to witness amidst the fog of reality television stars as guest speakers in the college circuit.
He talked about things that most students could relate to concerning love, sex, alcohol, travel and world events while also setting a fabulous example of what you can do when you read good books and give your Lay-Z-Boy a rest.
I also admire his honesty about college in a recent quote for an interview with the Bristol Herald Courier, “There’s a whole rap I have on student apathy,” he said, “If you all are going to come here and do nothing, you should be plucked out of your seats and an underprivileged person from some of America’s many howling ghettos should be inserted in your seat with your parents paying their tuition.” Great, articulate speaker, highly relatable to college students and very entertaining.
I was delighted.
