Eating healthy on a college budget in a college town is not easy. Most can see why the “Freshman 15” is so evident: students are on a budgeted time schedule with a budgeted amount of income. Answers to this problem result in the dollar menu, pizza delivery, junk-food snacking, and main meal.
The goal is to break-away from this unhealthy lifestyle and develop healthy habits that will improve your life both in the present and in the future. To do this, one must find alternatives to the norm.
Today, I wish to commend one restaurant that stands above the rest with respect to taste, selection, price and most importantly, nutritional value – Barberitos.
Barberitos is a southwestern-style eatery that specializes in both freshness and taste while providing an affordably healthy meal. At Barberitos, every order is personalized with the customer’s variety of choices and toppings; therefore, each has a uniquely delicious taste.
While burritos are their forte, Barberitos also offers a selection of other southwestern cuisines like taco salads, quesadillas, and nachos. Each of these selections comes at a surprisingly affordable price. In fact, if a student uses their “Well Card” (distributed to P.O. boxes at the beginning of the year), they can get a skinny burrito, chips, and a drink for $5.48 with tax.
Now, I know that skeptics are wondering if an “affordable” skinny burrito will fulfill their appetite. If this is your concern, I dare you to take that challenge. Speaking from my own experience of having a massive appetite, I have never been dissatisfied with my hunger level following a visit to Barberitos.
As all this sounds enticing, we must look at the main purpose that I suggest Barberitos: it is a healthy meal. First of all, Barberitos offers lean proteins such as chicken, fish (on Fridays), and tofu which are essential to the rebuilding of the human body.
Secondly, as it is quite difficult to get one’s vegetables in for the day, Barberitos allows the customer to choose from a variety of fresh toppings like mushrooms, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, spinach, cilantro, etc. All of these selections come at no extra charge to the meal.
Lastly, Barberitos provides good fats into the individual’s diet through selections such as guacamole, fish, and olives.
The only concern is to limit your intake of the fried taco shells and chips. While they are good in moderation, eating too much combined with your regular daily intake can spell excess fat.
Ultimately, I must suggest one to consider adding Barberitos to your regular lunch or dinner destinations. I have personally seen the benefits that Barberitos promotes and only wish to share this with others. If you do not believe me, ask the many others that choose Barberitos on a regular basis. Trust me; it is truly a superior meal for the everyday body and budget.
Barberitos in Johnson City is located on 3135 Peoples Street next to Kmart. If you have any questions or comments, please send them to jivory00@hotmail.com, entitled “newspaper”.
