On Saturday, Sept. 12, the ETSU men’s soccer team played against the Belmont Bruins in their final home game before opening SoCon play in just one week. While these teams have played against each other numerous times in the past, this was the first match since 2021, when the Buccaneers faced a loss against the Bruins.

 

The first period started off with a bang, with Belmont scoring in the first 15 minutes. ETSU soon followed with a point of their own, made by number 7, Caleb Powell. 12 minutes later, number 9, Gavin Dick, scored another point, boosting ETSU to the lead. The Buccaneers were shut out for the rest of the first period, giving the Bruins a perfect opportunity to score 2 points of their own, taking the lead.

 

The second period started strong for the Buccaneers, with number 10, Jaime Carrillo, scoring another point for ETSU, tying up the score. Only four minutes later did number 12, Joe Gonzalez, score another goal for ETSU, giving them back their lead. The rest of the second period was filled with substitutions, blocks, fouls, and yellow cards on both sides of the field, 30 minutes later, with no more goals being scored, ETSU took home the win with a final score of 3-4. This was not only ETSU’s first win against Belmont since 2019, but it also allowed them to even their record to 3-3. 

 

The ETSU men’s soccer team was back in action for an away game on Wednesday, Sept. 16, against UNC Asheville, a team they have tied against for the past 2 seasons. The Bucs lost the match 2-1. They will begin their SoCon play against Wofford, in their home field of Spartanburg, S.C.
